TRAUMA-INFORMED YOGA CERTIFICATION TRAINING with Zabie Yamasaki

Memories of traumatic experiences can be intrusive, which can create challenges for survivors. These memories can also make it difficult for survivors who are looking to establish connections in their lives and learn how to trust again. The entire experience of practicing yoga can help survivors find integration of the mind, body and spirit amidst all of the disintegration that trauma causes.

These novel and uncertain times can be especially challenging for survivors of trauma. Trauma can leave the body feeling dis-regulated and unsafe. Trauma-Informed yoga can help survivors gently tend to embodied trauma imprints and bring them to the surface. And with greater awareness, time, and patience, survivors often feel empowered with new tools to tend to their survival responses with care. This can ultimately lead to a space where survivors can expand their capacity for neuroplasticity and take powerful steps towards post-traumatic growth.

Course Overview:

Being trauma-informed is a philosophy and a systemic framework of the way we truly see people and honor their humanity. It is a lifelong commitment to learning and doing the work of being an ally, educating ourselves, being aware of our biases, and engaging in culturally affirming practices. It is committing to and engaging in our work that at all costs; avoids re-traumatization.

This trauma-informed yoga certification course will show how to offer yoga to survivors of trauma in a safe, effective, evidence-based, and healing way. Drawing upon the framework of trauma-informed care and expertise in trauma-informed yoga program development and curriculum, this course explores practical considerations for yoga teachers, mental health professionals, educators, activists, healing professionals, and survivors who are interested in integrating trauma-informed yoga into the scope of their work and/or healing.

Filling a much-needed gap in service delivery for survivors, this course will focus on providing trauma-informed education at its intersection with yoga, providing a comprehensive overview of how to work mindfully and compassionately with the sensitive and intentional needs of survivors of trauma. 25 CE’s are available via Yoga Alliance. transcending trauma through yoga frequently-asked questions:

  • While Embrace Yoga’s Roots is a year-long program with self-paced modules and live call elements, our Trauma-Informed Yoga Certification Training is entirely self-paced. Thus, you have LIFETIME access to our course materials once you sign up.

  • This training is open to folks in a variety of different fields who want to incorporate elements of trauma-informed yoga into their work, or just learn more about the modality to deepen their own practice. I started offering trainings with a broader perspective and a 200-hour yoga certification is not required. However, in order to teach yoga classes in studios or offer classes in the community, that would be recommended as the next step. This training does not provide certification to teach yoga.

Some mental health professionals incorporate seated or restorative postures into their therapy practice and they don't need to be 200-hour certified in order to do so. Others run mindfulness and trauma informed breathwork groups and it allows them to incorporate this training in a way that makes sense for them! Many survivors learn about the framework to help them in establishing a safe home practice. It's different for everyone. You can incorporate the teachings from this training in whatever way best supports your personal and professional life.

  • Transcending Sexual Trauma through Yoga Training is recognized via Yoga Alliance. Once folks complete the online training modules, they can fill out this Google Form to receive a .PDF certificate of course completion. Please click here to learn more about the process of how to submit to receive your CE credits.

  • The trainings are very similar in content, but everyone has different ways they like to learn (online vs. in-person)! Some enjoy the opportunity to connect with others in person and ask questions in an interactive format. Others prefer a self-paced format and to be able to control the timing of slides and content intake. I also created the online training to make these teachings more accessible and to reach folks who cannot travel to California or have not been able to participate remotely. The online training also includes lifetime access to all materials and includes 8 trauma-informed yoga classes in the survivor series.

  • I formatted the online training in a self-paced format to make it as accessible as possible for folks to join at anytime. You are absolutely welcome to reach out to me with any questions you have as you work through the material.
